engine oil

Why does my engine need engine oil?

Motor oils are extremely important as lubricants for the functioning of a vehicle. Engine oil reduces the mechanical friction of all moving parts in the engine. Without this lubrication, metal would rub against metal and the engine would be destroyed in a short time.

RZ Oil engine oils ensure reliable lubrication under the most adverse conditions. In extreme cold, the oil is as thin as possible so that the starting process is easier and the engine oil reaches all important points in the engine as quickly as possible. However, the oil film must not tear off even at extremely high temperatures, otherwise the engine will suffer considerable damage in a very short time.

What do the numbers on the engine oil stand for?

The clearly recognizable numbers on the RZ Oil canisters represent the respective SAE class. This assesses the viscosity and thus the flow properties of the engine oil. This classification is internationally uniform and is determined on the basis of certain test methods and standards.

The number in front of the "W", such as 5 or 10, describes the flow properties of the oil when it is cold. The smaller this number is, the thinner the oil is when cold. Thus, an oil with a lower value is better for cold starts and will lubricate the engine faster. A larger number stands for a more viscous oil when cold.

The number after the "W", such as 30 or 40, describes the viscosity of the oil at a temperature of 100°C. The higher this number, the more resilient the oil can be when warm.

The RZ800 5W40 engine oil can develop its full effect at ambient temperatures of -30°C to +40°C and can therefore be used almost universally in any climate zone.

Incidentally, the "W" in the designation stands for an oil suitable for winter use. This comes from days gone by, as special monograde engine oils were used for summer and winter in the past.

Which engine oil does my vehicle need?

Special oil compositions are required for each engine. This is particularly the case with petrol and diesel engines. When manufacturing their engines, vehicle manufacturers take into account the design of the engine components, the metallurgy, the filter system and also the change intervals. We therefore recommend that you always follow the manufacturer's specifications.

First of all, it must be clarified whether it is a petrol or diesel engine. Both engines require a different oil, which is also due to the different combustion temperatures. The automobile manufacturers have largely switched to not only specifying the engine oil for each vehicle model and each engine, but also to specifying the change intervals. A look at the operating manual definitely helps to find the right engine oil and its classification.

There you will find information on the correct SAE viscosity class and other required specifications such as the ACEA specification. It designates the oils according to A for car petrol engines, B for diesel engines in cars, vans and vans, C for engines that are equipped with an exhaust aftertreatment system, and E for pure truck diesel engines.

On our product pages you will find the specifications that the respective RZ engine oil meets in the product description. If you are not sure which oil you need - contact us, we will be happy to help.

How long does Motor oil keep?

Our RZ Oil motor oils have a relatively long shelf life in the closed tin can. However, the storage period of approx. 4-5 years should not be exceeded. If the oil is stored for a longer period of time, certain additives can be released from the oil.

In addition, oil cans that have already been opened should not be stored for longer than six months, as this can lead to interactions with the outside air. In general, the product should be stored at a constant temperature between 5 and 30 degrees Celsius and the metal containers with the engine oil in them should be dry and clean.

Why does engine oil need to be changed?

Oil performs two important tasks in the engine: on the one hand it lubricates the engine so that it runs smoothly and on the other hand it cools the pistons, valves and cylinders. RZ Oil engine oils can take on these tasks with ease, as they contain special additives that optimize the performance and basic properties of the oil.

Therefore, these additives must not be worn out so that the oil can always do its job without any problems. As a result, the lubricating properties deteriorate, the heat is no longer redistributed and the valves wear out faster.

In addition, there can be an accumulation of metal particles in the oil, which can lead to increased wear and malfunctions of the engine.

This wear and tear progresses with every kilometer - the basic rule is: If you drive frequently or almost exclusively in city traffic, you should (have) change the oil more often because this puts more strain on the engine.

Why does engine oil turn black over time?

New RZ Oil engine oil is amber in color. Not only does it darken with age, it also gets tougher. The reason for this is deposits and dirt, and the density and quality of the additives are also reduced. In short: the quality of the oil decreases. Both the lubrication and the cooling no longer work properly. This can lead to damage to wear parts and the engine. In addition, increased fuel consumption is likely.

Do the color check with the oil dipstick. To do this, drive about 10 kilometers, then park the car on a level surface, wait about 2 minutes for the oil to collect in the oil pan, then check.

Can I reduce my oil consumption?

During normal engine operation, a small part of the engine oil gets into the combustion chamber via the piston rings and valve guides and burns there. The toxic exhaust gases are neutralized by the catalytic converter. This oil consumption is to be distinguished from the term oil loss. This is understood to mean that oil drips out of the engine into the open air.

While oil loss must not occur, according to engineers from the major car manufacturers, an engine today should consume between 600 milliliters and 1 liter per 1,000 kilometers. In practice, the consumption of modern engines is far lower. In addition, the burned oil is noticeable as so-called blue smoke at the exhaust.

Ultimately, oil consumption always depends on the design and size of the engine. Turbo engines require a little more oil because the oil gets through a seal on the charger shaft and lubricates it as well.

But there are also vehicles with a turbo, such as the Smart, which has not used a drop of oil even after 50,000 kilometers. This is because the Smart Motor only has three cylinders. 6-cylinder and 12-cylinder engines consume considerably more.

Tips for lower oil consumption:

  • Do not continuously run the engine at full load.
  • Run in the new engine for at least 1,000 kilometers at low revs.
  • With the help of our high-quality engine oils with very low evaporation losses, oil consumption can be further reduced.
  • Regular checks of the oil level can quickly identify excessive oil consumption and eliminate the causes.
Where can I return my used oil?

n principle, dealers and workshops that sell oil are also obliged to accept the same quantity of used oil from private households. So if you have purchased your RZ Oil product directly from us, you can give it to us in a suitable container and we will take care of the disposal.

The same regulation also applies to our dealers and online dealers. However, the return transport of the used oil is often the responsibility of the customer and the post office usually classifies the oil as dangerous goods, which makes shipping cumbersome and expensive.

Regardless of the dealers, used oil can also be disposed of at the local recycling depots. However, the municipal recycling centers often have a maximum amount that can be handed in per delivery.

Additives

What are additives and what types are there?

Additives are additional substances that are added to fuels such as petrol and diesel or engine oil. With additives from RZ Oil you protect your engine and reduce your fuel consumption.

Our oil additives clean the engine from the inside, reduce friction and wear, reduce oil consumption and protect against corrosion. They are suitable for all petrol and diesel engines and help restore your engine's original performance.

The RZ Oil fuel additives for petrol and diesel keep the entire fuel system clean from the tank to the combustion chamber and guarantee optimal combustion and compression. In addition, these engine care products ensure clean diesel particle filters (DPF), exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) and Otto particle filters (OPF) without impairing the function of the exhaust gas aftertreatment components.

What problems can I solve with RZ Oil additives?

In the course of the service life of modern engines, contamination and corrosion can occur. In addition, the latest generation of engines have sensitive systems for exhaust gas aftertreatment such as diesel particulate filters (DPF) or exhaust gas recirculation. Depending on the operation, these can become clogged or clogged and no longer provide the desired performance. Increased fuel consumption and reduced engine response are usually signs of such contamination.

Cleaning: Our special additives for petrol and diesel vehicles clean from the tank to the combustion chamber. In addition, important components of the exhaust aftertreatment are freed from deposits and coking.

Corrosion protection: Wherever moisture and air come into contact with a metal, corrosion can occur. The special RZ Oil Additives put a thin protective film over these sensitive components such as fuel lines and valves and thus protect against corrosion.

Friction reduction and wear protection: The additives of the RZ59E ceramic engine protection are distributed with the engine oil throughout the engine and prevent direct metal-to-metal contact on moving parts. This reduces wear to a minimum and the reduction in friction can reduce fuel consumption.

Has the effectiveness of the RZ Oil Additives been proven?

Through extensive internal tests and analyzes we can always guarantee 100% security for our product quality. In addition to the laboratory tests, practical tests covering several 100,000 kilometers under everyday conditions are a matter of course for us. Before the market launch, we test our developments with different vehicles and under different conditions. Existing products are also regularly used in practice and further developed.

Our products are also tested for effectiveness and quality by external organizations. The majority of our additives have already been certified by the TÜV and their effectiveness has been confirmed.

What is your experience with RZ Oil additives?

The users of our RZ Oil Additives are always enthusiastic, as the effect can be felt and seen very quickly, such as a reduction in fuel consumption or a significantly quieter engine. However, the indirect benefits are more significant, namely increasing engine life and saving on expensive repairs.

However, it must be mentioned in this context that additives are not miracle cures. An engine that has already been damaged cannot usually be restarted, even with the best additives. You should therefore use them primarily for prevention - and not only when it is already too late!
